The "S. Isidoro s.r.l." estate
was founded in the late 30's, along the Maremma Laziale coast,
90 km north of Rome and some 25 km from the border of Tuscany,
the farm covers approximately 817 hectares. Originally and
until the 60's, the estate was directed by my grandfather
Giovanni and then my father Emidio continued the work with
the help of my uncle Aldo. The management of the farm is now
conducted by the third generation my brother Antonio and myself.
We grow plants typical of the mediterranian area, peaches,
plums, apples, tomatoes, water and sugar melons, as far as
fruit is concerned. Wheat, maize, sugarbeets, sunflowers,
and proteic plants for extensive field crops. A section of
the farm is now converted to "biological" and destined to
free ranging "maremmano" cattle, horses and goats. Finally,
our pride and joy, the viticolture section, that occupies
some 57 hectares, in the northern hill area, about 10 km from
the tyrrhenian shore, between the towns of Tarquinia and Montalto
di Castro. Here is found included plantings from the second
half of the 90's (spurred Cord) and part of a 1978 plot of
Trebbiano Toscano. The new varieties planted are: Montepulciano
and Sangiovese as native species (already present in the area
for many years), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdoit
and Chardonnay, all have adapted perfectly to our territory.
The cellars were completely restructured (as far as the operative
part was concerned) in 2001, it is now fitted out with technically
advanced machinery. An old granary has been adapted to house
the premises where the aging process takes place. The bottling
is also done on the premises. The entire investment has been
made, following the indications of Dott. Riccardo Cotarella,
the firm's oenologist.
